synopsis:
girl alien is a coming of age short film set in a post-alien Australia. We follow Delta (03LT4), an alien who has known only the inside of a lab her whole life as she integrates into society. Enrolled in university, Delta is ready to breeze her way through girlhood and humanity. Upon arriving, she has awkward encounters with her new roommates, faces harassment from classmates and suffers a bout of homesickness, desperate for connection. At her lowest, Delta meets Atlas, a non-binary student who is the first to treat her like a 'girl' instead of an 'other'. The film asks the question, "what makes you human?"

Director's statement
As technologies advance and we progress into the future, the idea of aliens and space travel becomes more excitingly tangible. girl alien appeals to those excited by this tangibility, but yanks Delta out of a classic sci-fi format and grounds her firmly into a coming-of-age story. This film focuses on identity, performance vs authenticity, and gender and sexuality for young people in a lonely world. Many individuals feel the need to perform and conform in the search for belonging, and these audiences are who girl alien speaks to - girl, alien, or something else, there are people who love you and you are irreplaceable.
